Sewage Cleanup & Restoration in Vancouver
Combined sewers east of Main still surcharge. The inlet is a basement floor drain or the lowest laundry standpipe. Colour is a bad way to judge it.
East Vancouver, Hastings-Sunrise, and parts of Mount Pleasant still see combined-system backups in a hard rain. The water can look almost clear and still be sewage. Kitsilano and Dunbar are less often this call and more often a dirty crawl, but a true backup is the same removal. Marpole low blocks take it at the lowest drain. Bleach on a pad is a smell for a day, not a cleanup.
We write the inlet as a drain or a standpipe when that is what overflowed. A supply-line story cannot share the sentence. Fir upstairs stays if it never got wet. We meter it. The whole house is not condemned because the basement drain let go.
East Vancouver standpipe and the soft goods around the washer
The laundry standpipe is a common inlet. Machines, the floor around them, and any soft goods that sat there are in the dirty zone. Those goods leave in bags. The machines get assessed after the water is out. A hose failure and a standpipe backup can share a laundry room, and the drain is what makes this one sewage.
Hastings-Sunrise basements from the same era get the lower wall opened where the paper sat in it.
Mount Pleasant plaster at the bottom of the stair
Plaster that sat in sewage comes off. The lath is cleaned or removed with it. Wiping the paint and hoping is how the stair smells next week. These houses connect the basement to the kitchen by a stair you use every day, so the barrier goes up before bags are carried.
Kitsilano character stairs get that same contained route. The fir on the main floor is checked and left alone when it is dry.
Dunbar crawl that is dirty without being a sewer
A wet crawl under a character house is often soil moisture and an old leak, not a combined sewer. We class it on site. Soaked insulation still comes out. A sewage label is reserved for a drain or a fixture that backed up.
If the hatch and the laundry both went, we say whether they are one event or two. The kitchen above a dry main floor can usually stay in use once the hatch is isolated.
Marpole lowest drain in a low block
The backup shows at the lowest drain, sometimes in a suite and sometimes in a garage that shares the slab. Soft finishes that sat in it come up. Concrete is washed after the debris is gone, then dried. Squeegeeing toward the lane puts the contamination outside and leaves the slab dirty.
A lane-garage flood of street water is a different inlet. We will say if the grate was the sewer.
